Blast from the past

these are old photos, but I like them, so I'm posting them! Getting tired of looking at myself as Tinkerbell, too!

Journal, etc

The problem, Luke, is that you do have a physical journal! You used to write in it (when you weren't using it as a mousepad). This is a fun way to write down thoughts, though.

I have journaled since I was in 3rd grade. I think I'm on book number 22. But lately I have been slacking, and I want to get back into it. I think it helps me think about and be with God more, and it reminds me of his past faithfulness to me. Lately I've been thinking about how Easter sneaked up on me, and instead of having no expectations for the holidays, which sometimes seems the safe thing to do, I'm trying to consider this holiday WITH expectation, even though now Easter is over. The Lord is risen, and he gives hope and joy. These are things I often live without and get used to living without.

Right now I'm blogging at work and researching thyroids and metabolism. I hope to find out something about my dang endocrine system. Have a dr appt Thursday and want to get a referral to an endocrinologist. We are kind of slow at work today. I'm working with the editor on a magazine, so we go back and forth.

Longing

So, is it OK to almost use a blog as a cheap form of a journal? I mean, I'm NEVER going to handwrite in a journal, it's just not going to happen, so maybe this would be a good way of writing down thoughts and stuff. Let's just hope I don't wander into areas that are best left out of the public eye.

Speaking of which, I'm not sure I get why most people like to have such a large chunk of their lives private. I'm all about some general open information sharing between persons, and especially between friends. Like what's it to me if I tell you what we paid for our house? Seems pretty innocuous to me...

Pretty sure I'm already in trouble; Say and I have differing views on that subject!

What I was really thinking about was CS Lewis's The Weight of Glory, and his very accurate descriptions of a certain pining that we all seem to do. I can see God's point; he wants us to long for him in ways that will never be satisfied on earth, but it still leaves us in a bind. How else do you explain being sad at the end of a particularly good day? I think it's because, no matter how good everything is, it's never good enough. And of course God rides in to save the day, but really I guess he doesn't until you die. So here we are, pining away, and all the meanwhile God reserves the ultimate joys for when we leave the mortal life. Kind've a bummer, really.

So the answer of course is to Trust God, and I try to and want to, but I also feel like in some ways he's holding out on me. And no, he doesn't owe me anything, but I'll be derned if it wouldn't be nice to see him once in a while.

Ya'll think about it

Not a Broad Audience

Hey Luke,
do you think anyone but us reads this thing?
haha.

design

Hi everyone,
Luke said maybe I could put some work on here. Here is a fun little project I did for flower magazine (flowermag.com). It's an invitation and envelope for their first anniversary party, as you can see. Got to use watercolor and pen&ink again, which was fun to revisit. used a lot of that in school.

Weird Topic

So below you should see some pictures of SR and I at the dental school Martin Luther King, Jr. party.

Here's an interesting discussion. Smells. So as I've been working out this year, I've totally noticed something strange; namely that, in my 24th year of existence, God decided to put the stank in my sweat. I'm not kidding, before this year I could work out and then go to class or anything no problem. And now all of a sudden, it's like, whew! I'm talking serious Old Spice need going on. What the heck is that all about? So anyway, I've had to change up all kinds of habits and plans; now every morning I have to think about getting a "gym bag" together to combat this new phenomenon. And let's talk shoes. I mean what is going on when I take my shoes off? I'm not kidding either, this is all brand new. Are there any diseases that could cause this?

Hey everyone. I just finished a 12 hour workday. Luke's right, my job is much harder. More later!

The Beginning

Being inspired by Katie and Joseph, I have decided that we too should have a blog.
After all, as Calvin and Hobbes once told us, the burden of genius is very great, and we must share our experiences with the world!

At this point we are in Birmingham, with Sarah Robins being gainfully employed at Southern Progress Corp., whilst I drain resources faster than Brad can shake our a pepper jar onto a steak at the UAB School of Dentistry. Make no mistake about it, Say's activity is the tougher one of the two. What's funny is that people are always asking me things like "how's Dental school going, are they really laying it on you?" or "can you EVER keep up with the material?" when in fact, it's not that hard. Let's be honest, C = DMD in the dental school world, and really As and Bs are very possible as well. So don't ever get too carried away when you hear of someone in Medical/Dental school: most of their whining is just an act.

Sarah Robins, on the other hand, is juggling not only a full time position, but doing several freelance projects on the side as well. I am very proud of her, and you should be too. Maybe we can get some pics of her work on here soon...

Now I really liked the direction Katie took with the likes, views, etc. thing. About me: I'm totally hooked on climbing, am loving tennis, and we have a sweet volleyball team going as well. I also tried out Ab Lab the other day, and have never had a girl make me feel like a very weak individual more than that instructor did! I've also been rereading my CS Lewis, and studying some about global warming. Yeh, you guessed it; I'm a skeptic. Let's be honest, environmental problems ABOUND on this planet, why make up one to add to the list?

Politics. I'm pretty disappointed that my man Ron Paul didn't make much noise. Boy I loved that guy. The way I see it, America was definitely Libertarian to begin with (remember the Revolution, it was fought over a 5 cent tax), and it would be sweet to get back to those roots. McCain is OK, I guess. He does have a Reaganesque quality about him that might prove useful. Obama seems like a nice guy, but also one who could easily ruin the country. Not exactly a trade off I'm willing to make. Soon I'll take on Healthcare and what the Dems might end up doing to us. Not that I'm a republican; remember, I'm a libertarian. Lastly, Hillary. She needs no words.

So is this a good start?

Luke
