Every once in a while we wish for a fireplace, but the truth is that I enjoy these kitchen shelves every day. I love seeing my white teacups and high school oil painting, and grandmama's green glass bottles, and Charlotte's watercolors, and Farris's self-portraits, and Helen's baptism invitation, and the big round bread board from Birmingham. These shelves are hard-working, and they are mighty cheery at Christmas with their cedar garland and sequin star and stockings made from old quilts! (Helen's will join the others up there soon!)

I woke up this morning a little tired and very thankful! I spent the weekend in Memphis, sharing lots of golden hours with @sharrison1230 , receiving countless hugs from my little almost-5-year-old cousin, laughing and talking with family, and having the privilege of joining with many others and their hard work in Independent Presbyterian Church's 27th annual Lessons and Carols. Thank you Uncle James and Aunt Pam for such an excellent and special program and for letting us be part of it!

One of the fun things about being part of Dixie is that I have gotten to make new friends and reconnect with old ones, like @vaughanspanjerart . This morning Charlotte woke up and told me she thought her feet were just a tiny bit bigger and that she could jump just a little bit higher than when she was four. She is bright, kind, loyal, and creative, and we never expected how much joy she'd bring with her when she was born five years ago. Happy birthday to my heart!
