At exactly this time in the afternoon six years ago, we became parents: that phenomenon where you heart's capacity grows beyond what you could have imagined, to hold joy, delight, prayer, fear, worry, hope, pain, and mostly love, all surrounding your child. In the midst of our celebration this weekend, I am thinking of those friends who are fearful or grieving because of circumstances surrounding their children or their desires for children: loss, absence, waiting. We taste heaven on earth, but it's not til we get there that all the tears are wiped away.

Had so much fun doing this animal friends invitation. I started using gouache a lot more about two years ago, and I have really enjoyed it as a medium! Head over to @dixie_design to get this piece, available as a first birthday party invitation or baby shower invitation. Styling by @augusta_cole and photography by @mandy_busby

Thank the Lord that by knowing others, we learn the qualities we have and those we sorely lack. Sometimes Luke and I joke that only about 5% of our thinking overlaps. We scratch against each other like rusty nails--iron, the verse says--and wonder what vast thoughts occupy the other 95% of each other's brain. The truth is that I'd be drowning in a sea of creative melancholy and perfectionism if it weren't for Luke constantly pulling me into the boat and reminding me of the glorious sunset. He lives with integrity, faithfulness and always hope, and we love him. Happy birthday, @lukejpowell !
