I love age 2. There’s such a sense of an overflow of personhood. He’s somehow fully a baby and fully a little boy at the same time in one little cute body. And now he says, “Come on, Petey!” #sweeteypetey 🐌 🐶

Sometimes I’ll paint something really quickly and I don’t even really like the end result (for example, here I needed more complex color and I don’t like the 50/50 composition) but it’s like my hands wouldn’t allow my brain enough time to even think through those things. I know I’m not alone in this. Sometimes you just get overtaken by a spirit and can’t relax til it can come through your hands and paintbrush...it doesn’t even really care how.

Painting from the North American Wildlife book. Helen’s favorite plant is the Venus flytrap! Right now she’s painting more flies who are about to get eaten.

This quote articulates so much about the creative process! #Repost @mcnivenjack with @get_repost ・・・ “ A moment of complete happiness never occurs in the creation of a work of art. The promise of it is felt in the act of creation but disappears towards the completion of the work. For it is then that the painter realises that it is only a picture he is painting. Until then he had almost dared to hope that the picture might spring to life “, Lucian Freud. Self portrait, oil and charcoal on canvas, 2002. Thrilled and inspired to see this stunning, unfinished, painting in the flesh today ! . . . . . . . #lucianfreud #selfportrait #painting #oil #charcoal #unfinishedpainting #portraiture #inspiration #royalacademy #royalacademyofarts #art #faces #texturalpainting #creation #masterpiece #creative #artist #studio #london

Advent often magnifies the brokenness of the world, the “now but not yet” of God’s restoration and my many ongoing failings, only to be contrasted with the fully redeeming, work of God. I’ve had many such moments already this month. God is gracious to send a redemptive moment not long after a broken one. He remembers us. This night of getting dressed up with a decorated house full of kind people was one beautiful redemptive moment!

Things are becoming clear for #farrisofthemall in her new glasses! I’ve had lots and lots of glasses since I was one year old, but I don’t think I’ve ever had any that were aqua with silver bows.

Must be some subliminal prehistoric inspiration leftover from Scotland, because Helen constructed this circle of princesses around an onion she found in the yard. She refers to it as “the onion of power.” #standingstones
